Start with the Bathrooms — Always
If you only have an hour to clean before guests arrive, start in the bathrooms. They are the most-noticed rooms by guests and the easiest to make a first impression with.
Focus on these in order: clean the toilet bowl and seat, wipe the sink and faucet, clear the counter, swap out hand towels, and wipe the mirror. If you have time, mop the floor or at least spot-clean it.

Guests will end up in your kitchen at some point. The two things they will notice are the counters and the sink. Clear all clutter off counters, wipe them down, and load any dishes into the dishwasher or out of sight.
A clean, empty sink does more for kitchen presentation than almost anything else. Wipe the faucet, polish the sink, and put a fresh towel out.
Living Areas — Tidy First, Clean Second
For the living room and any common areas, the goal is "looks tidy" not "deep cleaned." Pick up everything that does not belong, fluff couch pillows, fold throw blankets, and clear the coffee table.
A quick vacuum of high-traffic spots and a wipe of any visible dust on the TV stand or end tables completes the room.

Three things make a home feel "professionally cleaned" to a guest:
- A faint fresh scent — light a candle or open a window 15 minutes before they arrive
- Clean smudges off the front door glass and entryway mirror
- Clear the entryway floor of shoes, bags, and clutter
These three small details signal "this home is cared for" more than vacuuming behind the couch ever will.
